The Eyeball
No expense is spared for the biggest, most anticipated event of the Cardiff Optometry calendar!
The themed event takes place at the end of the second term and typically consists of a dinner dance with drinks reception plus anything else that applies to the chosen theme. Past themes have included Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2009) with a giant chocolate fountain, Arabian Nights (2010) with a live snake and belly dancing show, Nautical Chic (2011) with a surf simulator and Titanic shaped ice luge, Hollywood (2012) with a 16 piece big band and flair bar tenders,James Bond, 007 (2013) with Casino & Martini Bar & Carnival (2014) with coconut shys and candy floss machines. 2015 saw the 1920s themed ball which featured flapper dancers and 1920s themed music played live throughout the night.
In keeping with the Rio 2016 Olympics carnival atmosphere; The 2016 eyeball saw Optoms arrive to drinks with samba dancing followed by a real party to finish off the year in style!
At this event we give out awards for the amazing achievements (or blunders!) of students and staff over the year. We also announce the new OPSOC committee at the dinner as the result of the previous few weeks of campaigning.
