A massive thank you to Essilor for sponsoring one of our Cheese & Wine events! Meaning only one thing... the 1st ever cheese & wine pre-drinks! Of course, the evening was well in attendance. Smiles, pizza and.... shots all round!
The 12 pubs of Christmas started as just a fun idea but is now an established tavern trail among some Optoms. Not organised or run by Opsoc, the students gather for a festive finale to the term!
I know you guys are still waiting for your hoodies! We're sorry! Well, I am.. It's a super busy time for these companies now, with schools starting back, clubs starting up and now Christmas on it's way. We had anticipated this, but unfortunately, we didn't quite make the rush. Then our contact at Hoodie Tee was away and so we were out of touch for a while! Vicki, has so kindly now reassured us that they've received our payment (which takes 5 days through the SU bank accounts!) has reached them. Now they're in full swing and shouldn't be much longer. Pinky Promise!
Thank you for your patience Optoms, muchos gracias. <3 Welcome to the wolfpack, the initiation social. Grey hair spray freaking everywhere! The grandma's rocked their socks off, shook their tooshes and waved their canes. A night on the town for nana Optoms. It wouldn't be complete without grumpy old men and their chavvy teens. Uh Yeah but, no but. They ushered the babies into Cardiff town in style, if you want to know more... You'll have to join. Your secrets are safe with us, we know what you did this term.
Who needs Hawaii when Pat & Al bring the sunshine to Cardiff. Oh the cheese. Our society smashed the fancy dress tonight, outshining all the rest. Bright colours, flower garlands and palm shirts, palm shirts everywhere. Meet the hula guy of your dreams last night? He was an Optom.
The 1st social of the year. Is always an awesome social. All the socials are awesome, if you didn't come back to school. You better go back to school. Greyfriarers street was flooded with white shirts, black pants & school ties as societies began the year. We met at the Blackweir, got lashed and stumbled into town.
We want to get everyone integrated and involved as soon as you get to Cardiff! This course requires confidence and team work, so we got freshers to choose their own groups. Social secs gave them a list of things to hunt down around Cardiff and they're off. We met them later at the pub, of course, to score up their efforts. Optoms, ready?!
Filming our video was awesome, we bounced around a few ideas but finally settled on the BIG RED BUS. Why the hell not? It'd be an awesome first day for the committee to get together and have a bonding sesh awww. Which we really did. We were so lucky with the Welsh weather, it only rained for maybe an hour? YESS. We sat proud and tall on the top of the double decker, taking in the gorgeous views of Cardiff. The nautical scenes of the bay before grabbing some food in spoons. Obviously. No trip is complete without grabbing a bite. Pres couldn't leave the bay without some traditional welsh cakes, hot off the griddle and in an array of different flavours. Yum. After dark we drank, drank some more and went to Glam. Wassup fresheeees. Welcome to Cardiff! They're supposed to be trial lenses... I don't know if people got this. Hahaha! But after several different drafts for our hoodie prints, we thought keeping it flush with our key fobs too would be pretty cool. The society doesn't make any money from our membership fobs, so we had to keep costs down but the fun up. Which is a little difficult. What do you think of our trial lens key rings? Are they convex-ing?
Putting pencil to paper was so much fun! We had a lot of ideas to play with. Once a few designs were drawn up, the final 4 were put to the rest of the committee. They liked the prism, it's a cool play on what we do in clinics and dispensing. But it wasn't to be. The trial lens is a symbolic mark of the Optician, whether you study it or not. We got a winner!
